I can't always get it to follow yyyy-mm-dd HH:mm. And your system defaults are 24hr? What the heck. that's all the timestamp detail I can see? and then for a more recent message, I see something like "" which I have no patience to figure out in the moment. I know I know, but it's just not something we're used to over here.

Go to Solution. Hello e. vanderiet ,. View solution in original post. This is great, but the options are terrible. I have a company that sends invoices to both British and American companies. Whichever option we choose of dd-mm-yy or mm-dd-yy will confuse one set of customers or another. Why are there not any options that write out the month, to be acceptable to both? And why is this a global setting, not one we can change with a different invoice template for both sides of the Atlantic?
I concur wholeheartedly. The options are useless when we need to invoice to multiple countries. There needs to be an option with MMM for a 3 character month at the minimum. We use our own date on every line entry of an invoice to get around the problem but the Invoice date and ageing date are still in this useless dd-mm-yyyy or mm-dd-yyyy format. We have to keep changing the preference before sending the invoice to each country.
While getting more options for the date format is unavailable, you can go back to the Other Preferences window and change it manually. I will share your suggestions with our product engineers for review. They'll take a look at them and check if they can add it for future updates. We wouldn't need 2 separate formats if you would just make an option available with MMM for month instead of MM, ie.
It would remove confusion completely for all countries. Such a simple change to remove an obvious ambiguity. I am accustomed to seeing and using the "gear icon" for many things; however, there appears to be no "gear icon" within Quick Books Pro So now what?
Hi Lee W ,. The above steps are for the QuickBooks Online version. For QuickBooks Desktop, you can change the date format of your reports from the preferences. Let guide you through how. You can read more of the details about customizing reports in this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
I've also added our page about reports and accounting for future reference. I clicked "Default" to make the selection, then chose the full date, with a check mark for the selection; then saved it showing the full spelled-out date September 20, written out in full. Is there an additional place to make this choice, such as a global selection that shows every date as the full name of the month, the day, and the full 4-digit year?
I checked the full date The column heading still shows up as Sep 20, Why can we not use the Windows 10 Snipping Tool to cut and paste here? Issues would be so much more clearly shown if I could snip and past a photo of the choices I made and the resulting report that does not display those choices. I am also choosing the full spelled-out month - day - year when printing the report, on Customize Report.
The Date Prepared shows up fully written out, but the column headings still have only 2-digits for the year. I need 4-digit years to show on the printed page. Hello there, Lee W. I appreciate your effort in keeping us updated with all the results. I'm here to bring additional clarification about changing the date format of your reports in QuickBooks Desktop. At this time, we're unable to change the column heading format as it is used by default.
But I'd love to raise this suggestion to our developers so they'll know your preference. Most of the feature updates are made to meet our customers needs. For now, I want you to be updated with the new features added in the software by checking the New Features option. Another way of being updated to the latest feature release features in QuickBooks Desktop is through this website: QuickBooks Updates: New QuickBooks Accounting Software Updates. I cannot imagine what QB developers are thinking when they decide the just cannot code a column heading to show a fully understood, clear, unambiguous date in a 4-digit format.
When I show reports to other people I have to manually ink in the last two digits of the four-digit year. How bizarre that this very important detail cannot simply be a choice like so many other less important Preference choices. I also have some concern that when I go back into this Help site, I see "Solved" for my problem. No, it isn't solved. And no I'm not any kind of "experienced" person on this site.
We can do better can't we? I do appreciate your help, after seeing so many posts that say simply go to Preferences and make the change, when indeed the change is not even available. Has anyone come up with a solution. Everyone is saying you need to use for all dates, I can't find a way to change it. I am using the newest Mac desktop version with all updates. How utterly imbecilic that we cannot go to Preferences and change the Year Format to show the year with all four digits.
This is not brain surgery coding. This is simple coding. This could be coded in about five minutes. QB people, what are you thinking? Hi, I'm not sure if this will solve the 4 digit year problem, but I just came across a setting in preferences:. The date format options are useless when we need to invoice to multiple countries. I have been on your blog and its been ages that clients are complaining about date format options.
No action from Intuit to fix a simple issue. Hi Vinny5. I can appreciate that you're looking for a specific date format that isn't currently available in the program. It's essential that we're made aware of these suggestions so that we can work towards continually improving the program.
How do I stop getting these replies? I do not have the checkbox set for email me when someone replies. I have zero confidence that the date issue will ever be addressed for QBO and I really do not want to hear any more replies.
We workaround by writing the month mmm and year yyyy of the invoice into the body of the invoice and always use date formats dd-mmm or mmm-dd in the line items for the invoice.
Where possible we issue invoices with a day greater than 12 so there is no confusion. I'm glad to hear you were able to find a solution that works for your business needs. I can point you in the right direction with how to turn off notification emails from the community.
Here are the steps. The gear Icon is part of your settings so it's always visible on any page you go to.
